As an important component of wagon parts, an air spring system is mainly used in the secondary suspension of rail vehicles, e.g. passenger coaches and metro cars. Sometimes, the springs are also referred to as rubber air suspension bags.
The system usually includes a bellow, top plate, sliding plate and auxiliary spring. The bellow is consisted of cord layers, rubber layers and steel wire to improve strength. The air is supplied from the train’s compressed air system, e.g. air compressors.
The main functions of a secondary suspension rubber spring are: It can support the weight of the vehicle, and provide vertical, lateral, and bogie rotation flexibility; it can also level the rail car to the correct height under varying passenger loads.
