A locomotive air compressor is required to provide a constant supply of compressed air for the air braking system and air control devices. It is one important component of locomotive braking system. There are many models available in China, such as NPT5 air compressor, W-1.6/9 air compressor, L2.4/10 air compressor, etc., which are widely used in Chinese locomotives.
The railway air compressors made in China are mostly air-cooled types. For example, NPT5 compressor is widely used, it has a Z-type two-stage compression air-cooled structure with reciprocating pistons. In addition to Z-type, there are W-type air-cooled compressors and screw air-cooled compressors. For example, W-1.6/9 air compressor, L2.4/10 air compressor, etc.
