Diesel engine is the main power source for a locomotive, so it is sometimes also referred to as the primary mover. It is one of the most important electrical parts for diesel locomotives. Normally, it comprises a large cylinder block, with the cylinders arranged in a straight line or in a V. The Chinese made diesel engines have cylinder numbers ranging from 4, 6, 8, 12 to 16.
