As a diesel engine part, locomotive turbochargers are indispensable and very important. A locomotive turbocharger charges more air into the cylinders of a locomotive diesel engine to increase the engine power. A turbocharger is driven by the exhaust gas from the diesel engine. This gas drives a fan which, in turn, drives a small compressor which charges more air into the cylinders.
