NPT5 Air Compressor for Locomotive Use

A locomotive air compressor is required to provide a constant supply of compressed air for the air braking system and air control devices. There are many models available in China, such as NPT5 air compressor, W-1.6/9 air compressor, L2.4/10 screw air compressor, L2.6/10 screw air compressor, etc.

The railway air compressors made in China are mostly air-cooled types. NPT5 air compressor is widely used in Chinese locomotives. It has a Z-type two-stage compression air-cooled structure with reciprocating pistons. It can operate continuously at an ambient temperature of not higher than 40℃ to supply compressed air required by auxiliary air devices such as locomotive air brake system, control air devices, sanding devices, wind horns, and driver’s cab windshield wipers, etc.

This Z-type air compressor is mainly composed of transmission parts, moving parts, body parts, air valves, lubrication systems, cooling systems and air filters.

In addition to Z-type, there are W-type air-cooled compressors and screw air-cooled compressors for railway applications in China. For example, W-1.6/9 air compressor, L2.4/10 screw air compressor, etc.
